Steves Digicams and CNET Reviews two classification as ameteur D90 digital SLR. Personally, I do not think a digital SLR APS-C size image sensor, the D90 has been described as a professional level. The purpose of the APS-C DSLR sensor would bring to consumers.

What are the criteria to judge a digital camera from a professional level?

No camera at the professional level, it will be used as an intermediate chamber that is configured like a professional camera (which has more buttons and more confusing for beginners), but it has the same function as a beginner camera (only 1 / 4000 shutter speed of less than 5 fps)

who said that he is a professional camera, not sorry.

Its all about building quality. On the digital SLR cameras like the Canon 1Ds Mark III and Nikon D3 plastic parts are metal, it's better weather conditions to the closing (although some Pentax models also have excellent welding time), the number is much higher accuations trigger. The camera is simply more robust and able to handle the approximate frequency of professional photographers.

We must also remember that professional photographers, digital SLRs with APS-C sensors before they become full-frame digital SLR sensor.
